If you’ve ever gone to a social event where you didn’t know anyone, you know how uncomfortable that can make you feel. Our goal is to eliminate every shred of apprehension and make you feel at home.
Since chiropractic care involves a series of visits, with each one building on the ones before, it’s important that our relationship can go the distance. We’ve found that one of the best ways to have successful patient relationships is to explain everything in advance. No surprises!
The more you understand who we are, what we do and why we do it, the better results you’ll enjoy. It’s as simple as that.
Your First Visit – Consultation & Examination
What to Expect When You Arrive
When you come in for your Private Consultation, you will be greeted by our Chiropractic Office Assistant Lucia or our Office Manager Ciara. We will take care of you, guiding you through to our consultation room and going over our intake form.
You’ll read through our consent form, and we’ll take a thorough medical history and details of any current complaints or health challenges. Once this is complete, you may be asked to get into a gown so that Dr Brian McElroy (Doctor of Chiropractic) has access to your spine for both the scans and chiropractic examination.
If you use glasses, please bring them along for the consultation as there are some health history details to be filled out.
- Postural ScansOur Chiropractic Assistants will take you through a variety of different spinal, muscle and postural scans.
These together give Dr McElroy (Doctor of Chiropractic) an overall picture of your health and wellbeing, as well as your individual symptoms.
It’s important to note that the scans measure your posture, the muscle activity along your spine, your range of motion, thermal temperature patterns and your heart rate variability — an indicator of overall stress levels.
- Your Consultation and ExaminationDr McElroy (Doctor of Chiropractic) will come in and introduce himself. He will then proceed to ask how the quality of your life is affected by any health challenges you are facing.
Since aches and pains will come and go, it is essential that we understand which aspects of your life are being affected. We believe this to be very important so that we understand what your expectations are.
The chiropractor then performs a thorough chiropractic and orthopaedic examination, testing muscular and neurological function through a variety of methods.
- X-Ray Facilities On SiteDuring the course of your Consultation & Examination, Dr McElroy (Doctor of Chiropractic) may recommend various X-rays to be taken of your spine.
This will all be explained by him, with the risks and benefits outlined to you in advance.
Should these X-rays be clinically indicated, we can do these on site in our Downpatrick office. This will be an additional fee, which will be explained to you when you book your appointment.
Your Second Visit – Report of Findings
At your report of findings, we explain what we found and how we may be able to help you.
Dr McElroy (Doctor of Chiropractic) will go through the results of the examination and the scans, taking approximately 15-20 minutes. Once you have given your go-ahead, you will receive your first set of adjustments.
Our two-visit approach accomplishes several things:
- Reduces the length of your first visit
- Gives us time to correlate our findings
- Avoids overloading you with too much information
Care Specifically Designed For You
In our office we see babies from only a few days old to people in their nineties, as well as everyone in between.
The care you get is specifically designed for you. We may see thousands of people with the same or similar health challenges as yourself, but the care you receive is always unique to you.
Your Regular Chiropractic Visits
When you come into the office for your regular visits, you will be given your folder and asked to go into either Room 1 or 2.
When you go into the room, you should lie down on the bench. This allows the body to relax in preparation for your specific adjustments.
When Brian comes into the room, he will check to see if there have been any changes we should be aware of and, if you are happy to proceed, will go ahead and deliver the chiropractic adjustments required.
Adjustments only take a matter of a few seconds and the whole spine can be adjusted in a matter of minutes.
When you are ready, you can then come back out into reception and check that we have your next appointment booked.
